There are tons of personal upgrades you can make to be more cute, attractive, and handsome.

Some of these cost nothing and can be implemented right away, others will take a few dollars.

Keep in mind guys, physical beauty generally gets you “in the door” for one-night stands and short flings. Character, on the other hand, will generally lead to finding meaningful, long-term friendships and relationships.

But, be that as it may, our confidence and self-esteem is more commonly defined by how well we feel about our ability to present ourselves.

And when it comes to finding a mate, humans really aren’t that  different from other animals in the kingdom, we just ruffle our tail feathers a little differently; I believe it’s still a natural instinct.

Bon chance!

#1 Confidence

No matter what you look like or how you feel, you have to portray a sense of confidence to be attractive. People sense insecurity and desperation and they are not very flattering traits. People will focus more on your attitude than on your looks

#2 Individuality

Regardless whether you make any personal upgrades, you should always be yourself. Whoever your soul mate is will like you for you, and nothing else.

Now, if poor taste in fashion is what you call your own sense of individuality, then we need to work on that…

#3 Sense of Humor & Charm

These are universal character traits I find almost everyone likes. Everyone likes to laugh and everyone likes to be charmed.

#4 Conversational

If the weather is the only thing you have to talk about then chances are everyone you meet is looking for you to stimulate them a little more intellectually.

If you’re not a great conversationalist, then you need to spend a little time learning good questions to ask on first encounters to create meaningful dialuge.

#5 Diet & Exercise

If you respect your body then chances are you’re taking the same level of care with other areas of your life.

Now, this doesn’t mean you need to be ripped and chiseled. I know plenty of guys who are a little soft, but they eat well and are committed to some form of exercise.

#6 Pretty Smile

Yellow teeth are a huge turn off, and this is inexpensive quick fix. You can get some Crest White Strips at your local store, or if you have a serious case of yellow teeth, talk to your dentist about getting whitening trays and gel.

If you’re teeth need to be straightened, then you may want to consider the investment. Most orthodontists will self-finance a treatment plan for you.

#7 Clean, Cut Nails

Nothing tells a person more about your personal hygiene then how you maintain your fingernails and toenails. Dirty, long nails are a major turn off.

#8 Hair Style

Say NO to Super Cuts and Great Clips. A bad hair cut can be spotted easily. A stylish, texturized cut will get you noticed. I love Vidal Sassoon, but be prepared to make an investment here.

You should always have some sort of hair product in your hair too, like a little cream or wax, but nothing that makes your hair look greasy or crispy.

Oh, and if you’re balding, no comb-overs please. I roll my eyes every time I see one; it’s like the guy thinks he’s got me and everyone else fooled; umm, I think not.

We know when you’re hiding your lack of hair. If you’ve got some serious hair loss going on, then you need to wear your hair shorter, plain and simple. It will look better.

#9 Nose, Ear, & Neckline Hairs

Please keep them all trimmed and neat.

#10 Hair Removal

If you have excessive body hair then you may want to consider hair removal cream like Nair, electric body groomer, waxing, or permanent laser hair removal.

#11 Face Care

Too many guys leave this to chance, and I could write pages (and will) on maintaining your face, including a proper shaving techniques. In short, you need to pull this together into a routine with the right products to keep a healthy looking face.

#12 Botox

Turn back the clock and look younger with Botox. The injections are quick and not painful, but it will set you back a few dollars. To get my forehead done costs $200 every 3 months.

#13 Lip Care

Cracked, peeling lips are not lips I want to kiss. Always, have lip moisturizer handy.

#14 Fresh Breath

Those little Listerine breath strips come in handy when you’re up close in conversation with someone.

#15 Proper Mastication

Chew your food with your mouth closed. No heavy breathing when you eat; I notice some guys do that, and it’s really a turn off.

#16 Healthy Hands

Hard, calloused hands are not hands I want to caress my body in the evening hours. When you touch someone you want the other person to feel warmth and comfort. To maintain healthy hands, use hand cream. There are hand creams made for men these days.

#17 Bathe Daily

I shouldn’t have to say this one, but I’m going to say it anyway, because I’m sure there’s someone out there who doesn’t know. Humans need to bathe daily to wash of the funk.

#18 Smell Good

Guys who like guys and women who like guys, typically like them to be a little perfumed. Nothing over the top! Spend a little time to match the right fragrance for you. And that doesn’t mean go out and buy Aqua di Gio or Polo Sport, cause everyone who knows nothing about fragrance owns a bottle of each; be original please.

#19 Tan Your Skin

A lot of guys would benefit from a little skin color (though I absolutely love my alabaster skin, and believe it’s asequally hot), then consider a tanning salon membership or either spray-on tans. Both are very effective.

#20 Slim Down

If you’re a little soft around the edges, have love handles, or man boobies, then consider investing in some men’s shapewear. It’s a quick fix to a new, slimmer you.

The alternative here is to go on a diet, but I know that sounds intense. Most guys react well to the Atkins Diet, so might be worth checking out.

#21 Clothes Care

Don’t wear dirty clothes, don’t mask dirty clothes with Febreeze, don’t wear wrinkled clothes, and always wear clean socks and underwear.

Overall, just don’t be sloppy with your appearance. If you’re lazy about ironing, then invest in a little hand steamer; they run about $20 and remove wrinkles from clothes quick and easy.

Oh, and don’t wash your clothes in overly fragrant detergent. In fact, I prefer scent free, so when I wear some sort of fragrance, my detergent is not overpowering my cologne.

#22 New Wardrobe

A new wardrobe can work wonders on your appearance. However, if you have a bad taste in style or are one of these people that says you have your own personal style, then please consult a professional stylist to help refashion the new you.

Zarah & H&M are great choices for a guy looking to be a little more stylish but on a budget.

#23 Hot Jeans

All guys need a couple pairs of hot jeans that flatter your shape (and there are jeans that look nice on all sizes of guys). You’ll want to look for designer jeans like 7 for All Mankind and Diesel, and expect to pay upwards of $200 per pair.

Trust me, $200 jeans fit much differently than $50 jeans; they are not the same. Good news is denim can be repaired, so consider it an investment.

#24 Shoe Variety

Too many guys only own one pair of black shoes. Black may go with everything, but brown, red, blue, and every other color or shoe style, like boots and loafers, may go better with your outfit.

#25 Cute, Sexy Underwear

No matter your shape or size, cute underwear will make you feel sexy. But, make sure you wear the size that fits you best; don’t squeeze into small underwear, it’s not flattering.

#26 Plastic Surgery

If there’s lots of work to be done, and if you’ve got the cash, then you might want to consider plastic surgery. The results can be dramatic and will immediately boost your confidence.

#27 Name Change

Your name creates an immediate perception with everyone you meet usually.

If you have a weird name or a name that just doesn’t fit you then there’s absolutely nothing wrong with considering changing your name. There are plenty of parents who should have thought twice before naming their children.

The BBC just wrote a great article recently on how names affect people’s perception of you.
